The Hubbard Free Library announced today it will close the library on Fridays beginning September 6, 2019, as part of efforts to reducing the operating deficit of about $18,000 it projects through June 20, 2020.
In order to balance the budget, the Hubbard will have to increase revenues substantially and carefully monitor expenses. As the year progresses, the Hubbard may need to consider additional cost saving measures including fewer staff, fewer open hours, a reduction in programs, fewer books, and other changes.
We have hit our target number of 1000 books we set as a challenge for our summer reading program. We are excited to see how far beyond this target we can go. There are two weeks to go in our summer reading program – plenty of time to see that number soar way up!
Hallowell author Chris Lockwood stopped by the Hubbard Free Library recently. He gave a talk and later signed books. We love supporting the local writing community and are so thankful for the opportunity to host local authors.
Yasmin Bromir will soon be leaving the Hubbard Free Library staff. June 15, 2019, will be her last day. Though we are sad to see her leave, we are sure she is off to new adventures!
School is out, which means Summer Reading is coming up soon!
Hubbard Free Library’s Sign-Up event will be on June 22, 2019 at 11 AM until 1 PM.
During the event, you will be able to sign-up for the Summer Reading Program, learn all about upcoming events, be able to browse book displays, take pictures, and more!
May 30, 2019, was Barbara Rohrbaugh’s last day at Hubbard Free Library.
She dedicated over 26 years to the Hubbard Free Library, wearing many hats during that time. Barbara was considered the genealogy expert for Hubbard Free Library, with many residents coming to her for research on families and Hallowell history.
We are so excited to welcome Cate Molloy as our newest staff member at Hubbard Free Library!
Cate is currently studying for a degree in Information & Library Science at the University of Maine. She grew up here in the town of Hallowell and taught early childhood education for 20 years. Cate enjoys keeping up to date on upcoming children’s books.
The final commentary and next steps from the Community Surveys and Community Forums.
As Hubbard Free Library looks to the future, we are excited to partner with the town of Hallowell to continue addressing the needs of the community, as well as innovating the services the library offers.
